In fact, even with the email-them-a-validation-code approach it's no longer possible to reliably validate an email address thanks to the invention of services like <a href="http://www.mailinator.com/" rel="nofollow">Mailinator</a>. If people want to keep their email address private, there's nothing anyone can do to stop them.</p>
